Google/ApplePay payments appear to be processed successfully in Shopify Payments test mode

In Shopify Payments test mode, an error message will appear when you try to make a purchase even if the credit card number is correct, but the payment will appear to be processed normally with Google/ApplePay. If you forgot to switch to test mode and a customer actually made a purchase, this FAQ will be helpful.
